The Mull and Iona Community Trust had for many years aimed to provide a Community Business Centre building with offices, a high quality meeting room and other facilities for long and short term let. The Trust acquired land in Craignure where it already had a charity shop in an ex Royal Mail garage.
The new Centre was designed to provide 5 offices with telephone and data services, a seminar and breakout room, 2 therapy suites and include a new charity shop. The site is small but prominent, located conveniently close to the ferry terminal to encourage users from the island and the mainland.
The Trust are involved in several renewable projects and many materials and technologies used in the building reflect this; the walls and roof are insulated with sheep’s wool and both water and heating are provided from boreholes sunk deep below the building.
The offices were opened in 2011 and have proved to be a popular and well used facility.
