The Pier is one of many Listed Buildings in Tobermory. The Fisherman’s Association felt that, as a working pier it was in need of attention to improve its appearance, safety and usability.
Historic Scotland were happy with all the proposals but concerned at the loss of the surface stonework, it a smooth safe finish was added.
After discussion it was agreed that a membrane be added between old and new surfaces on the pier itself, leaving some stones visible at the junction with the public road.
Sympathetic lighting was also added to reflect the style of lights on the main street and improve safe use of the pier in winter and at night. Replacement of bollards and crane completed the works.
