This project was completed in 3 phases, the original stone farm house and double height byre and barns enclose an east facing courtyard. The family wanted to form a house for themselves, a large self catering cottage, a house keepers flat, garage for boat and car storage, retaining one of the barns and their privacy.
Initially the main house was refurbished, a glazed dining area added to the west wall of the kitchen, the blank north facing gable removed and rebuilt in stone with a bay window and upper floor bedroom window giving light and views to Duart Castle and Loch Linnhe.
Phase 2 saw the flat above the new garage built and clad in local stone and slate, with a glazed timber porch giving access to both house and flat.
The self-catering two storey house formed in the old byre and store and entered from a new porch on the south side completed the project. French Doors and windows were installed on both floors of the west gable, the archway from the court yard was in-filled with glass blocks, and dormer windows added in each of the 4 bedrooms.
Sympathetic additions, interventions and knowledgeable and careful detailing achieved more than the family had hoped for.
